So why did I start a Facebook artist page? My wife thinks I am crazy to do things like that and it does look a little (or a lot) like self-promotion. But I have a reason and it goes back to my personal story as a musician. Some day, I am going to write here how I have arrived at this point in my life, but the short synopsis is this--I have had opportunities because of God and also relationships that I have formed over my life.
The reality is that musicians live in an unprecedented time where they really have extraordinary control over their career. Gone are the days when musicians had to catch a big break with a record label. In fact, more and more musicians are seeing record deals as a liability. Certainly, they are no longer necessary.
Tools like Facebook are invaluable to help me reconnect and build relationships. When I left college, I had many friends that I expected never to have the opportunity to see again. Today, I can chat with them as much as I want. We live in a wonderful time.
And of course, Facebook is good for me spreading the word about my music ministry as well. And that, in a nutshell, is why I started a Facebook Artist page. Come visit me there.
Will you do me a personal favor?
If you use Facebook, please take a moment and comment on this post. I appreciate the feedback and doing this helps other people learn about my resources. Non-Facebook users can leave comments using the alternate form below.
