Serena William's outburst at the US Open yesterday should have surprised no one. She may have a rabid fan base that would support her if she actually did kill a line judge, but the rest of us are just tired of her and for that matter, her sister Venus.
Yes it is remarkable that those two sisters can pretty much dominate a sport that they only seem to work at part time. But their attitudes are a disgrace. I have been observing them for ten years and have never once seen them give credit to an opponent unless they are playing each other. That is true even when their opponent thrashes them. If you listen to them talk, the only reason they ever lose is because they played bad.
Serena refused to apologize in her press conference but that is hardly surprising. I am not aware of any time either has apologized for anything.
I am always surprised the press does not have the backbone to call out those two for what they are--boorish, immature whiners with gigantic chips on their shoulders.
Won't they just go away? Please? I used to like watching tennis until they came along.
