When I started my business in 1999, I spent the first several years hiding behind a computer in shorts and tee shirts.  I worked out of my house and rarely got out to meet anyone.  Those were good days by the way.

Over the years, I hope I have matured as a business person in many ways, but one way that I have changed dramatically relates to how I view relationships.  In the beginning, I did not think I needed them.  Now, I see them as necessary.

Relationships are highly important to both my music career and Vitabase.  For example, most of my concerts occur because of relationships I have.   I can't imagine how hard it must be for a musician to start a career without a lot of help from a lot of people.

At Vitabase, I have chosen more and more to go out and intentionally create relationships.  I am not a fan of business travel, but I am now going to more of those conventions and trade show.  Invariably, good things happen when I do, just because I am focused on finding people to talk to.  Recently. I was a trade show and struck up a conversation with someone in the pool area late one night.  The result of that conversation is a new partnership that we are both excited about.

Spend a lot of time networking and look for win-win situations.  Eventually, opportunities will come for you.
