I mentioned earlier in the week how I was practicing for my new CD using rhythm charts created by Steve Mauldin, the orchestrator.  Here is part of one that sort of made me wince when I saw it.  Notice all the time signature changes.

Yes, there are 7 time signature changes in 14 measures.

So how does this happen?  It happened because I created an arrangement in my mind without really thinking about how it would look on paper.  The rhythm I am using is complex--perhaps a little too much so.

It is not really a problem except other people are going to be reading this music.  Fortunately, the orchestra is used to sight reading music that is at least this rhythmic.  On the other hand, I plan to publish these arrangements and some pianists are going to find this a bit challenging, especially when trying to play along with the orchestration.

So, is this kind of thing good or bad? I am still on the fence about it but it is too late to change it now.

Will you do me a personal favor?
